2013 Season Brought to an Abrupt End
5 Races in and we have to draw a close to 2013 racing
It's certainly been an interesting start to my first season on on-track competitive circuit racing!
A quick recap...
Having missed out on joining the inaugural Trofeo Abarth 500 Championship in 2010, I'd managed to work towards my own car and getting out under my own steam in 2013. Unfortunately, the 1500cc Class D car we hoped to run in the Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship didn't get finished so I 'rented' a MGZR and then a Suzuki Ignis Sport for the first two rounds of the Championship securing me 2nd in Class before switching across to a Class A provided by FC Performance.
With a view of developing the FC Performance track car into a competitive race car, our plans quickly got underway and in the first two races had brought the car on leaps and bounds. However...
You may remember that the turbocharger gave a dramatic exit during the opening laps of the 5th round setting our first ever DNF? Well, courtesy of vehicle owners Grant Motorsport and FC Performance, a replacement turbocharger was sourced and fitted and the necessary remap completed ready to hit the ground running once again for Round 6.
However, during qualifying for Round 6 the car just did not feel right and the bottom end/drivetrain was making some very questionable noises. Needless to say, the bottom end actually gave way completely thus exiting our Round 6 hopes.
So what's the position now?
Well, neither FC Performance or Grant Motorsport are able to invest more resources into the car for the remainder of the season, and with my Class D car still to be built am not in a position to take on the car full time AND fund a complete new engine rebuild. So this means we have to take the difficult decision to pull out of the remainder of the Championship for 2013.
A disappointing end to what began with such promise, however undeterred we WILL be back for 2014 and beyond!
